MEET OUR ORPHANS

In this culture, adoption is very complex; however, we have been caring for six children since 2009.

Initially, these children were being cared for by their elderly grandmothers, who could not even provide the necessities, so we agreed to house them.

The children were temporarily housed in one of the Alfred Powery Primary school classrooms until the orphanage was built in 2013

2024 has brought several challenges for the orphans at The Alfred Powery Orphanage in Turkana, Kenya. Tragically, their matron of eleven years passed away on July 11, 2024. However, we were fortunate to hire her adult daughter, who is already familiar with the children.

Mr. Wakhungu, who has been with the children since they arrived at the orphanage, serves as a father figure and continues to oversee their administration and well-being.

Despite the difficulties, this year has also been remarkable. Three of our children have graduated from secondary school, and two of them have chosen to pursue further education.

Stephen Ekiru graduated from secondary school and is pursuing a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at Kitale National Polytechnic in Kitale, Kenya.

Ian Nakoroma graduated from secondary school and is pursuing a degree in Agriculture Extension at Kitale National Polytechnic in Kitale, Kenya.

All of our children are teenagers. Four of them spent their winter break in 2024 at Mr. Wakhungu’s home with his family in Bungoma, Kenya. This experience allowed our children to immerse themselves in a different environment and culture.
